New Year’s Resolution
I’m a goal oriented person, so it should be no surprise that last year I made several New Year’s Resolutions at the beginning of the year, and I’m happy to say that for the most part I’ve followed through on these action items. For example, I just finished reading the Bible through in a year (as of this morning), I painted a couple of rooms in the house, I kept up with a fitness routine. This year, I want to set out to accomplish great things, but as I was reminded by our adult ministries pastor (Frank Chiapperino) the one goal that I should have for the upcoming year comes from Philippians 3:10 – “I want to know Christ.” If I follow through on this one resolution, the other areas of my life should fall into place. Frank used Philippians 3:12-16 to emphasize how we go about achieving this goal. Here are the basic points:
DISSATISFACTION – “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal” (verse 12)
DEVOTION – “But one thing I do” (verse 13)
DIRECTION – “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (verse 13)
DETERMINATION – “I press on toward the goal” (verse 14)
What a great way to kickoff the New Year. Here’s a funny video clip to go along with the post. I’m sure we can all relate to what these kids have to share.
Until the next post, Happy New Year!!!
